Personal Evangelism, August 2023

Summer is about over... or maybe not! August begins the "back to school" push and the leaves on the trees are showing signs of change... and so are the disasters, conflicts, and anything else that captures our attention... even our thoughts and emotions. Spending time in God's Word and in prayer are so essential in these unpredictable times we are living in. A vital and transforming relationship with Jesus and sharing that with others has brought so many blessings! The following are some ideas that come to mind may be the very jumpstart to revival and reformation in your life and the lives of others:

Friendship evangelism

Friendships with non-Christians and non-Adventists… Being there during their good times and difficult times and offering loving support and unconditional love. People, no matter who they are or what they believe, respond to genuine kindness and thoughtfulness.

Giving out literature

Keeping a supply of health-related and end-time events tracts and books. Common sense appeals to the logically-minded. Talking about the EXTREME things that are going on now can alert those who do not believe as we do, to the fact that something is seriously wrong. Then anything regarding The 3 Angels’ Messages, The 2nd Coming of Jesus, and The Great Controversy are all good! The Holy Spirit will guide you as to what is good to give out.

Reaching out to the hurting and suffering

Being the hands and feet of Jesus wherever you go. Collect toothbrushes, toothpaste, socks, gloves, hats, a non-perishable snack, etc and  a tract or 2—put in a gallon Ziploc bag and give out. Buying a sandwich and a drink for a homeless person as well.

Giving a Bible Study

The 4 Gospels are still a good thing to study. If people are approached with the idea that you are studying with them and not at them, the pressure you put on yourself can be lessened. You don’t have to have all the answers off the top of your head, either. An answer like, “I don’t know, but let me do some research.” Gives you the chance to search for answers during the week or speak with someone at church who might know. Also, you can alert people to the Bible studies available online through:

Giving your testimony

Grab a piece of paper and write down answers to the following questions:

  1. What do you like about being a Christian?
  2. What has Jesus done for you that changed your life? Be specific. Avoid “He redeemed me. He shed His blood for me.” etc. Generalized statements like these are hard to identify with and define for a non-Christian.)
  3. What freedoms have you found in a relationship with Jesus?
  4. What do you like about being a Seventh-day Adventist?
  5. What do you like about going to the Adventist Church?

Focus on the positive and try to not to glorify the sin; but share how Jesus guided you out of the “old life” and into the new one with Him; along with the peace, joy and fulfillment that a relationship with Him can give.

One More Thing… Every now and then, I, myself, need to do a basic Bile study to review what we believe like the one I did 44 years ago…”The Bible Says”  So, if you need to, go online and do one with the sources I mentioned earlier. It is easy to do and there is no obligation.

You may have some ideas of your own as well…  MB

“All who receive the gospel message into the heart will long to proclaim it. The heaven-born love of Christ must find expression. Those who have put on Christ will relate their experience, tracing step by step the leadings of the Holy Spirit—their soul agony, and the works of Christ to them, ‘Thy sins be forgiven thee.’ It is unnatural for any to keep these things secret… And as they make known the rich treasures of God’s grace, more and still more of the grace of Christ will be imparted to them.” Christ’s Object Lessons, pg. 125
