I Have to Admit... , January 2025
I have to admit, I have a fascination with things that glow in the dark. It started with the old-fashioned watches whose hands glowed that beautiful light green color. Bedside clocks had me captivated. Then it showed up in a small gift my parents bought for me in San Francisco when they went on a long trip from Spokane to Southern California back in the 60s.
Things have not changed since then. I am still fascinated and decided to do some tests. I put a small glow-in-the-dark object near some different types of light bulbs for about 10 seconds. Then it was put in a dark cupboard in the kitchen. After 5 minutes, the item didn’t glow very bright. To change things up, I put the thing under a regular desk lamp for 15 minutes and into the cupboard it went! After 5 minutes, it had a dull glow also.
So here is what I learned, the closer to the light source, the brighter the glow and if it is exposed closely to the light source for a longer time, the glow is even brighter in the darkness. Moses’ face glowed after 40 days and 40 nights with God. The martyr, Stephen, had a face that glowed as he witnessed for Jesus. So it is with us, the closer we get to Jesus, the brighter our witness will be. “This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” So it says in 1 John 1:5-7, English Standard Version.
Here are some other verses about “light” that may be meaningful for you (there are many more): Matthew 4:16, John 1:1-9, John 9:5, Micah 7:8, Psalm 119:105, Psalm 18:28, Matthew 5:16, John 8:12, and Psalm 27:1. So spend time with the Lord in His Word and in prayer so that you may shine ever brighter as you witness for Him! MB
