Drawing a Blank..., March 2025

What should I write about this month? My mind was blank again, so I went back to the beach this last Monday asking the Lord for some inspiration, knowing that there would not be many people there. It’s easier when it is quiet to look and contemplate what I see. I found a perfect, smaller shell that a snail would have lived in. A gastropod. There were the usual fragments. Then walking along the very edge of the water, flat, smooth stones. Five of them came home with me. Wave after wave, high tide and low tide, and the shifting sand had made them what they are. They no longer rolled and remained flat even though what was underneath them was changing day by day and moment by moment.

How’s life? Keeping up with everything? Busy to the point of exhaustion? Spending a lot of time in isolation from the chaos? Or maybe, “Bring it on!” and thriving on the adrenalin of all the excitement and this is happening now and he/she is doing that, etc.  Or escaping to another addiction, other than adrenalin or social media.

“Been there and done that” and people have watched me. The parakeets too. Jesus calls you and me to get closer to Him. “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28, NKJV) “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place [even if it is a room in the house with a locked door] and rest a while.” (Mark 6:31) “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:29) Finally, “Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; then you will find rest for your souls.” (Jeremiah 6:16)

Blessings to you, my brothers and sisters in Christ! Know that in your deepest discouragement, confusion, depression, intense excitement or care, you are loved! MB
