“How’s your courage?” she asked. Silence on the other end. The dam that held the tears broke open and all the pain and discouragement poured out the young woman’s eyes as she sobbed to the older woman who was there to cheer her on during the discouraging time of a low-paying job, parents that disapproved of her choice to be a Seventh-day Adventist Christian the year before, and the uncertainty and fear of what disaster was going to happen and she would not have the money to pay for it. Does this sound familiar but in a different way for you?
How’s YOUR courage? What are you struggling with? Do you have someone in the church who is cheering you on and encouraging you? Do you have someone who will pray with and for you? Are your days strung together and you are alone and struggling and discouraged and your Christian walk has changed and there is no time for the Lord and the problems are mounting? Call someone. Reach out to our pastor or another church member who may be struggling like you. Make a commitment to talk to each other regularly and pray and encourage one another.
We are living in difficult times and challenges and problems are hitting all of us from different directions. It is easy to lose sight of Jesus in all of the mess. God is still on the throne even though it does not seem like it. Commit time with Him each morning and if you need to, plan to call someone and read out of one of our daily devotionals together and then dedicate the day to the Lord. It doesn’t have to be a long conversation. What a beautiful way to start your day and bless someone else at the same time!
You never know, but there could be someone you are not aware of that needs a friend and a kind word or 2 to lift their spirit because life is not always easy for some and they suffer alone. We are encouraged to “press together” and in the unity of fellowship find the love, care and protection from the Lord. MB
