Why?
God has called us to reach and bless the world. Our church is in a community that has 3 zip codes. Almost all of us live somewhere else and we come here to this community to worship the Lord. It is a great place to be! What can we bring to bless our neighbors? What do we have to offer to make the lives of people in this community something better than what it is or how it has been? That is what Personal Ministries are all about!
Jesus referred to God’s people as “the salt of the earth.” Salt is necessary for our survival and it also serves as a preservative. As one of my good friends says, “The salt can’t do much if it stays in the shaker.” We can grow as a church and as individual members spiritually, as we share the “light” we have and I will be the first to admit that stepping out there sometimes scares me. By faith, God does for me what I cannot do and I have been blessed beyond what I could imagine! Others have experienced this too. When the love of God shows up in us, we carry that love through the Holy Spirit to people that are in desperate need of a kind word or a thoughtful act. Our world needs to see the character of Jesus so they can take hold of Him and be ready for His glorious coming!
How?
All kinds of ways… through friendship, interests, hobbies, and other various individual activities or in small groups where the love that we have for each other can spill into the lives of those who may have never really felt or known that they are loved or even belonged anywhere. There are many who feel this way and yes, there may be some among us. There is nothing preventing anyone from using whatever interests, talents, or abilities to show the love Jesus has for the world! We will be looking at a number of ways to reach others.
The Sabbath School class is just one way where a visitor can be a part of a vibrant learning situation. We have a member who works in a care facility that sings hymns to the dying. Some drive or walk around neighborhoods putting books in the various lending libraries. Another has given recipes to businesses. Some other ideas can include a group singing at a nursing facility. Passing out literature. Offering or giving Bible studies. Inviting a friend to church. Taking a class and learn something new and meeting a new friend you can reach for Christ. The possibilities are endless… We will be looking at the possibilities in the future. Are you willing with me to step out in faith and be the hands and feet of Jesus? MB
